This week was definitely the first time I started to see the play start to come alive in the rehearsals. We've spent so much time thinking about concepts and working out characterizations and thinking about what the play could be. Finally getting to see full run throughs was somewhat surreal. Thinking back to when I first started writing the script feels like ages ago, back when it was just an idea I was playing around with that I had no idea if it would even become the actual play I submitted for the class assignment.
Beschut was almost cut from the initial script, and now they've become one of the strongest pieces of imagery for the whole show. Keanu has filled the role in such a splendid way. The physicality he brings, paired with the fluidity of the way he speaks, has brought such an interesting light to the character. It's been an amazing transformation since the first reading of the script.
We FINALLY got to do the voice over work for Jones and Glen. This was my first time seeing voice work be done, and I have a greater understanding now of the work it takes to do voice acting. It's hard to convey exactly what you're hoping to get in terms of vocal quality and emotion in such an environment, but after a few hours of recording, I think we have a lot of great material to use for the radio calls. I'm excited to be able to play them in rehearsals. I think it's going to bring a whole new element into the show that we haven't had yet.
I think this week's rehearsals are going to be the most interesting to run. Now that most of the lines are known and Nate isn't giving lines anymore, it's going to be up to Chloe and Keanu to make it work with what they remember. There's been a fair bit of adlibing, which there's already been, so we're going to have to be hard on making sure they remember their lines as much as possible. I'm really excited to see how much it develops. I'm also stoked to see the costumes! I haven't seen them yet, but Nate has gotten to take a peak and them and he says they look incredible. I'm so curious to see what our costume designer ended up crafting, especially for Beschut.
