Week three has been both fun and stressful. Having one of
your main actors drop from the show is tough, especially with such a short
period of time between now and the dress rehearsals. Finding a replacement has
been a slow process, but I am confident we will find someone just as suited to
the part and who will be a great addition to our cast. We have been putting off
the read-through of The Last Person on
Earth because of this hiccup in our casting, but we now have it scheduled
and I am excited to finally hear the characters voiced aloud by the actors
themselves.
My favorite part about this week was getting to see our
directors’ concept presentations. Each director presented what was basically
their vision for the show they were directing. Seeing their ideas for costumes,
setting, lighting, and sound was encouraging and made it easy to envision some
great productions. Since I have only been thinking about the dialogue and
story-line of my play for the past two weeks, it was almost a shock, a good one,
and very eye-opening to actually see the physical aspects Lindsey had
envisioned for the characters. Personally, I hadn’t even thought about how they
would look, only how they would sound, so the production concept kind of opened
up new possibilities for my brain; a new way to see my characters. I loved
Lindsey’s concept for the production of The
Last Person on Earth and can’t wait to get started.
