The Guardian: Over the Next Hill

This week was great for rehearsals. We re-worked nearly every scene and made them all a lot more fleshed out. We tweaked blocking, worked on bringing out the emotional quality more, and just improved the show in general. I feel that both Keanu and Chloe made significant progress this week.

I felt far more confident in my role as director this week. I've said it before, but I truly believe that I learn a little more and get a little better at it with each rehearsal that we have. And this week, we had a lot of rehearsals (5 in total, counting the one we will have this Sunday). So a lot of improvement was made.

Costumes are coming along nicely, as is the set. Isabel showed me some of the stuff she was working on and I loved it all. We have decided to do away with the blocks forming the "nature circle" around Ren's campsite entirely. They were just proving to be too much of a hassle, especially during transitions. We replaced them with the curtain, which I think works really well. I think that, with the curtain, lighting, and sound effects, we will be able to create enough of an ambience to showcase the vision without using the blocks.

We also had the voice-over session this week, which was a ton of fun and went super well! All of these technical elements of the show seem to be coming together quite nicely, and both Keanu and Chloe continue to grow into their roles more each and every rehearsal. I'm very content with how the show is coming along!

The next step after this week will be doing tech and company run-thrus. I can't wait to get started with that stuff!
