Hard Work Pays Off: Last Person Rehearsals

With only a couple of rehearsals, it seems like this was a slow week but in reality we got a lot of blocking for the show done. All of our actors seem to take direction easily and have been working really hard to make this play a success. Not to mention, our fantastic director who has organized and arranged each rehearsal to get the maximum amount of blocking and rehearsing possible out of each session.

In our latest rehearsal, we worked specifically on blocking a two minute scene. This short section has no lines. It may not sound exciting, so let me finish. During these two minutes, we see the passage of time through the sped-up movements of two of the characters. There is a beautiful instrumental piece that covers this section for those two minutes. It builds up and adds to the emotion of the scene, not to mention it is beautiful! I personally love the song choice and the entire concept of this scene to show that time in the play is passing, which I think works really well with the time jump in between the two scenes. Lindsey really has amazing ideas for this production!

Other than that, we want our actors to focus on memorizing their lines during this weekend so we can have a successful off-book run-through as soon as possible. We are just a few weeks away from the performances and getting things nailed down is a priority. It is great to have an awesome cast and director who are on top of things! Although I know they have a lot to deal with, especially as some of them are in more than one show this term, so I am proud of everyone for doing their best and keeping up with our tight schedule. As the writer, watching my idea become a reality is intensely satisfying and rewarding. I’ll say it again: I am so proud of everyone for working so hard to make this production a success! I get more and more excited with each rehearsal we get through!

Good luck to everyone!
